Castelão
Probably Portugal’s most widely planted red grape variety, dominant in the southern half of the country. A grape that is not deeply coloured but offers alcohol and aromas. It performs best on the Setúbal Peninsula in the Terras do Sado, where it makes firm, elegant, raspberry-fruity wines that evole to cedary, cigar box character reminiscent of fine, mature Cabernet.
