Jaen is the Tinta Mencilla of north-east spain. Pilgrims are believed to have brought it back after walking to Compostela. It has a short vegetative cycle, which makes it ideal for the higher parts of Dão where the soil is porous granite sand. This variety produces wine which is intense in colour, low in acidity and has intense red fruit aromas.
