Terras do Sado

Herdade do Portocarro
Herdade do Portocarro is part of a farm located in the demarcated region of “Terras do Sado”, near the village of S. Romão, parish of Torrão, a pilgrimage destination on the way to Santiago de Compostela between Alcácer do Sal and Torrão. The region has always been recognised for the excellence of its wines. It has quenched the thirst of the many travellers who, over the years, have crossed the river here, and is renowned for its vineyards and wine production. The name Herdade do Portocarro is inspired by two characteristics intrinsic to the property. Firstly, the existence of a high point located in the region's highest hills, which in times gone by used to be called “carro”. Secondly, on account of the port and crossing point on the banks of the river that makes its mark on the landscape. José da Mota Capitão's ambition is to produce a different wine, a cult wine. A red wine from “Terras do Sado” which will establish itself as an unique emblem of exceptional quality, a benchmark both in the region and throughout the country. A wine positioned in the elite niche of superior quality wines.
